Chapter 5: Of Documentary Evidence
Section: 74
The following documents are public documents :- (1) Documents forming the acts or records of the acts - (i) of the sovereign authority; (ii) of official bodies and tribunals; and (iii) of public officers, legislative, judicial and executive, [of any part of India or of the Commonwealth] [The original words "whether of British India, or of any other part of Her Majesty‘s dominions" have successively been amended by A.O. 1948 and A.O. 1950 to read as above.], or of a foreign country; (2) public records kept [in any State] [Substituted by A.O. 1950, for "in any Province".] of private documents.
